My name is Megan Strait, but as you might have noticed, I prefer to be called ‘Maggie’. I was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and raised in it’s neighboring city, St.Paul for the majority of the past eighteen years of my life. Currently, I am nineteen years old and living in a similarly bustling metropolis, Columbia, MO. (That was meant to be a joke..I will work on those). I am in the midst of completing my second semester here at the University of Missouri-Columbia, popularly known as Mizzou. I came to Mizzou to become a part of it’s fantastic, world renowned, Journalism program. For the most part I am thrilled that I have found that everything written about the program, seems to be accurate! I have been extremely impressed with all of my professors, and courses thus far. I hope to continue feeling this way for the school of Journalism, as I am sure the courses will increase in difficulty but also lead me closer to fulfilling my goal of achieving a career or degree based within the program.
I primarily decided to put this blog together to exhibit my multimedia skills and provide an easy access point for employers or possible business interests to review my work, and check out my resume. But I also find that in keeping a blog it is important for readers to hear about my life outside of school as well. I am extremely passionate about working with a non-profit following my graduation from the University of Missouri. I have a passion for traveling, backing packing, camping, language, you name it. For the past 6 years outdoor education and adventure seeking has been a huge part of my life. I have been apart of backpacking trips through Europe and Mexico, as well as numerous adventures in the States. I love taking my passion for the outdoors and using it to encourage and foster a growth of a similar love within other individuals. I have found that the best way for me to do this, is through camp counseling. I have worked with several YMCA programs, the most recent being, Camp St.Croix. I have worked as trail staff, sailing instructor, overnight counselor, canoe instructor, and lifeguard at the camp. The past few summers that I have spent there have been the most precious experiences of my life. I hope to apply the same passion as I have for outdoor education, into wherever life chooses to take me!
